Immersive 39-day program where teams of three students determine the orbit of a near-Earth asteroid using observations from a professional-grade telescope. Also offers a biochemistry track studying enzyme kinetics.

Computer Science Summer Institute (CSSI)

TEALS Program

NILA Pre-College Program
Week-long residential program at a university campus introducing Hispanic/Latino students to engineering and STEM fields. Includes workshops, lab tours, and mentorship from SHPE professional members.
STEM Internship Program

SWENext Program

One Stop Shopping Initiative (OSSI)
Central portal for all NASA internship opportunities. Engineering projects at NASA centers include spacecraft design, propulsion systems, mission operations, and robotics. Work at centers like Johnson, Kennedy, or Goddard.
FIRST Robotics Competition
Not a traditional internship, but one of the most impactful engineering experiences for high schoolers. Build a competitive robot in 6 weeks with a team, learning mechanical engineering, programming, CAD, and project management.
DNA Learning Center Research Program

Science Talent Search (STS) Preparation
While STS is a competition, the research you do to prepare is equivalent to a top research internship. Students conduct original research in any STEM field and submit a written report. Top 300 scholars receive $2,000.
International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF)
The world's largest international pre-college science competition. Students present original research at regional science fairs to qualify for ISEF. Over $9 million in awards. Research can be in any STEM discipline.
Summer Student Program
Conduct genetics and genomics research at one of the world's leading mammalian genetics research centers. Students work on individual projects under faculty mentorship, attend lectures, and present at a summer symposium.
Broad Summer Research Program (BSRP)

Various UC campuses offer summer research programs for high school students. Research with faculty mentors in fields from marine biology to astrophysics. Some campuses offer residential programs with college-level workshops.
Congressional Internship Program

Summer Advocacy Institute

Girls State / Boys State
Immersive week-long simulation of state government. Participants form political parties, campaign for offices, draft legislation, and run a model state government. Delegates are selected to represent at Girls/Boys Nation.
Close Up Washington D.C.
Week-long civic education program in Washington, D.C. Visit Congress, the Supreme Court, and executive agencies. Participate in workshops on current policy debates and meet with elected officials and journalists.
Judicial Internship Program
Shadow and assist federal judges in district and appeals courts. Learn about the judicial process, observe trials and hearings, conduct legal research, and gain exposure to the practice of law at the federal level.
Summer Model UN Institute
Intensive Model UN training at a university campus. Learn diplomacy, public speaking, resolution writing, and international affairs. Includes simulations of UN committees addressing real-world global issues.

Summer Research Program
